What To Expect At Each Checkup Through 18 Months

Two Week Visit

Recommended Immunizations: HBV, if not already given in the nursery.
Recommended Feedings: Breast Milk, or Formula with Iron.
Expected Development: Eyes fix and follow a human face.
Questions to Ask, Important Issues to Discuss:
•   Risk of infection in first two months of life.

Two Month Visit

Recommended Immunizations: DTaP, HIB, Pneumococcal and Polio vaccines.
Recommended Feedings: Breast Milk, or Formula with Iron.
Expected Development: Smiles, coos, follows with eyes, responds to sound.
Questions to Ask, Important Issues to Discuss:
•   Any family members at risk from live polio vaccine?

Four Month Visit

Recommended Immunizations: DTaP, HIB, Pneumococcal and Polio vaccines.
Recommended Feedings: Breast Milk and/or Formula with iron; may introduce rice cereal.
Expected Development: Laughs out loud, lifts head, grasps objects.
Questions to Ask, Important Issues to Discuss:
•   Dangers of infant walkers.

Six Month Visit

Recommended Immunizations: DTaP, HIB, Pneumococcal and HBV vaccines.
Recommended Feedings: Breast Milk and/or Formula with iron, cereal, fruits, & vegetables.
Expected Development: Rolls over, supports head when sitting, babbles.
Questions to Ask, Important Issues to Discuss:
•   Rx for fluoride drops needed?
     (breastfed or in non-fluoridated water area)
•   Rx for syrup of Ipecac, injury prevention.

Nine Month Visit

Recommended Immunizations & Tests: HBV vaccine and anemia test (hemoglobin).
Recommended Feedings: Breast Milk and/or Formula with iron; pureed table foods or baby      foods; finger foods; introduce cup.
Expected Development: Sits, crawls and may cruise; has pincer grasp; says syllables.
Questions to Ask, Important Issues to Discuss:
•   When to turn car seat around (20 lbs).

Twelve Month Visit

Recommended Immunizations: Mumps/Measles/Rubella (MMR), Polio, and Pneumococcal vaccines.
Recommended Feedings: Table foods and cows milk.
Expected Development: Push to stand, cruises and may walk; points and waves; says “mama”,        “dada” in presence of mom & dad.
Questions to Ask, Important Issues to Discuss:
•   Need to wean bottle.

Fifteen Month Visit

Expected Development: Walks, feeds self, drinks from cup, stacks blocks, says few words, points to a few body parts when asked.

•   Stop bottle, if haven’t already.

Eighteen Month Visit
