Always use a car seat!

To avoid baby’s head from getting caught in crib slats, make sure they are no more than 2 3/8” apart.

Never leave your baby unattended in a bathtub or on any flat surface above the floor.

Keep your water heater set at less than 130° F and always check bath water temperature before putting your baby in a bath.

Don’t smoke, eat, drink or carry anything hot while close to your baby.

To avoid choking, use only large rattles, toys and teethers that can’t separate or break into small pieces.

When your baby can crawl, or walk, place barriers to block stairways or doorways. To avoid strangulation, use straight top edges and rigid mesh screens, instead of diamond-shaped or v-shaped openings.

Do not use baby walkers. They do not help the baby to walk sooner and they are an accident waiting to happen.

To avoid electrical shock, place plug guards or tape over electrical outlets. Never let baby chew on electrical cords.

For crawling or walking infants, place safety catches on lower cabinets so that toddlers cannot open them. Keep all things such as the following in high, locked cabinets: medications, vitamins, cleaning products, cosmetics, and of course, any toxic chemicals or liquids. Always keep medications and poisonous substances in their original containers. Keep plants out of reach of your baby, since some are poisonous. Poison Control can be reached by calling 222-2227.
